(I also spend a large amount of my time doing research in a lab related to kidneys and kidney disease, trying to develop new ways to study kidney cells and tissue in a dish. My hope is that my research will allow us to better understand kidneys through things like disease modelling or drug testing in a dish. One day, though probably far in the future, I hope this research can be applied to providing a better understanding of how to regenerate or grow kidney tissue with the goal of helping to alleviate the increasing burden of chronic kidney disease on patients and shortage of organs for transplantation)
